Nona's Sims

Modding and Troubleshooting The Sims 3

The closing of Nona’s Wiki — where to next?

I received an e-mail a few days ago from WikiSpaces stating that in order to keep my free wiki I have to mark it as educational or get a paid wiki. If I take no action, my wiki will deleted in 30 days! Now I have to figure out what I’m going to do with this wiki. I worked really hard on it. Should I host it somewhere else? Should I just let it go?  Meh. I don’t like having to make these decisions.

  1. I’m afraid I don’t have a suggestion but I just wanted to say I hope you get it figured it out without too much hassle. Thank you for all the wonderful work you’ve done for TS3 so far!

  2. I had that message too, and I actually forgot I had a wiki page lol. I just closed it, I didn’t have anything on it anyway. I hope you don’t lose your data, I’m sure there’s some easy way to convert it and put it elsewhere, you have some very useful info there 🙂

    • Thanks Dee. I’m going to take care of it as soon as I finish my paper. What a pain though.

  3. Hmmm, I wonder if it could be considered educational, since we all learn something from it. Good luck with your schooling and your site. Oh maybe, use the wiki for your graduate classes someway. 😀

  5. I keep coming back here al the time, even though I have quite a few of your mods – but I’m still in the process of purchasing expansion packs for the Sims 3, so my trips here will continue to be frequent. It’s a selfish thing on my end, but I really want this place open forever.
I hope you figure things out and make the decision that’s right for you at this point in your life. Good luck!

    • Hi Maxine.

This website will remain open. It’s only my Wiki at Wikispaces that I need to find a home for. It is too expensive for me to pay for a wiki there, and I don’t think I feel comfortable claiming it’s an education wiki. I have backed up everything, now I just need to find a good place to host.

  6. Nona, why not you just host it on this wordpress?

    Comment by kaixinz | October 6, 2014 | Reply

    • I might do that. I had all that information on the wiki because it was easier to set up in the manner that I wanted it. I’ve got everything backed up, at this point, I just have to find the time and inclination to put it up somewhere else. Wikispaces also offered me a PDF version of the wiki, so worst case I will just publish that.

      • i think it’s a lot better to host it on this site, then everything can be found on one site.. It’ll be a lot easier!

  7. Hi Nona, I can imagine this is a difficult decision. For me, I’am very attached to my sites and all the work I put in it so I’am not ready to let that go any time soon. Although I do think about how it would be when the moment comes. I figure, it will come when I’am ready. Just recently I started another website with CAW resources (you know my site, just follow the link if you want to take a look) for English and Dutch players. It’s not the same as mods, but the free host I use for all my sites (Weebly: here you can have 10 free sites, I think it’s ten, under one account) gave me the possibility to organize everything nice and orderly similar to you’re Wiki. I have a free Box account (with 10 GB storage) for my downloads, so I can easily link to them from my site. Only, I don’t know if Weebly allows to link to sites like Mediafire (just in case you have some mods over there, from what I have seen you have not) because I can’t (at least I couldn’t so I haven’t tried it again): it gave some notification about … (I forgot, I think it has something to do with the “war” against piracy). But I never use MF so this isn’t really a problem. Anyway, I hope you figure it out. Good luck and take care! Greetings, Libby

  8. I’d just call it an educational wiki ’cause this helped educate me about TS3 a lot. Or you could always make a wix account or move to tumblr
