Dragon Valley Problem: Dragon Eggs won’t hatch

Help! I bought Dragon Valley from the Sims 3 Store, but my dragon eggs won’t hatch. When the timer says 0 minutes, I get a notice saying the egg will hatch soon but nothing ever happens!

This is a very common issue that is, fortunately, easily fixed.

The reason the dragon egg does not hatch is because the game cannot find the resources for the baby dragon, so the baby dragon cannot be created. This happens when the dragon has not been installed correctly through the Launcher. It’s not something you’ve done wrong. For some reason, the Launcher did not properly install the dragon for you. Please take note that this is not related to the ccmerged.package, but you should still make sure your ccmerged.package is updated because the dragons provide custom moodlets.

Solution

  • Re-install Dragon Valley until the egg hatches.

Do not uninstall Dragon Valley first. Just re-install it right on top of your previous installation. It could take several tries for the baby dragon to be properly install, so fee free to just install the sim3spack say, 3 times in a  row, and then check your game.

Did you install a pirated copy and then purchase Dragon Valley afterwards?

If you first installed an illegally obtained copy of Dragon Valley before purchasing the real deal, you are very likely to have problems with your eggs hatching. If you uninstall your pirated copy and then install a legit copy, but your eggs don’t work, your launcher did not properly uninstall all of the resources for Dragon Valley. This happens a lot with the launcher. To fix this issue, you have two options:

  1. Make a Clean Sims 3 Folder and re-install ALL of sims3packs, including store sims3packs.
  2. Use KT’s StoreFix DecrapFixes from MATY

  1. Please note: If you have decrapified your sims3pack, you will require an extra fix, available at MATY, for the dragon egg to work.

  3. In my experience, once you reach a certain cap (large amount of Store stuff), the launcher shows nothing as installed. It might show up when you first install but when you restart the launcher, it’s all uninstalled and gone. The stuff is in the game anyways.

Do you have a suggestion how to make sure the accessory gets installed if you have tons of stuff ? Does it show up when you first install it ?

    • I have the same experience. When I install stuff in my huge game now, mostly I never see it in the launcher except when first installing, and I certainly don’t see the accessories. It’s really hard to know they’re installed at all.

I don’t really have any suggestion other than to install the sims3pack like 3 times in a row and then check in game. That seems to make it work usually, and it’s why I made that recommendation post about small worlds. I wish I knew a better way, because even loading a tiny world on a SSD is annoying for testing purposes when you have to do it over and over. But since the store stuff is encrypted, it’s not even possible to create a program that would look in all of the DCCache to see what’s in there. I really wish EA would do some work on the launcher.

      • Well, one way to know that the accessory isn’t installed is if you put in one of the Store fixes and the object still doesn’t show up in game. But you’d have to be willing to download a 3rd party mod and use it. It’s also not that helpful and obviously, you can’t tell just by looking at the launcher. Not really a great solution.

    • I’m sorry you have this problem. Here are some more options for you.

      Option A
      Try KT’s StoreFix DecrapFixes.
      – This requires Mods framework. If you don’t want to use mods, skip this.

      Option B
      – Do make sure your ccmerged.package is update.

      Option C
You could also try creating a clean folder for the Sims 3:

      1. Go to Documents\Electronic Arts\ and rename The Sims 3 folder to The Sims 3.old
      2. Start the Launcher. A new folder will be created.
      3. Install Dragon Valley
      4. Launch your game and test if your eggs will hatch. If your eggs hatch, you have a problem with your old Sims 3 folder. It does not necessarily have to be a mod. There could be other corruption.

If using a clean folder works, you may need to re-install all of your content through the launcher. Note that you can move over some folder from your back up: Library (contain lots and sim families), SavedSim (contains sims in the sim bin), Mods, Options.ini, UserPresets.package (contains saved presets for CaSt), Collections (contains your custom collections), Saves (contains your saves)

  8. Did both of the KT’s store fixes put into Documents -> Electronic Arts -> The Sims 3 -> Mods -> Packages and in Documents -> Electronic Arts -> The Sims 3 -> Mods -> Overrides and also in Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods and Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods/Overrides
    No luck
Did option B this morning now my eggs have no countdown and just sit there so now trying option C

    • I’m glad you got it to work. Thanks for coming back. I just want to let you know, never, ever put any mods in the installation directory Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods, regardless of what it says at MATY. Some MATY users use the old way of installing mods, but this is no longer necessary, and some mods will not work if installed this way. If you have added any folders or files in your Sims 3 installation directory, make sure you remove them all. If you do want to install mods, use the information at How To Install. If you ever have a question about mods installation, feel free to ask me.

It is very important to use the Mods framework from MTS because it contains a working Resource.cfg which is absolutely necessary for mods to work right. If you did this, please ignore the comment, but it is important for anyone who might read this later :)

Again, I’m glad you got it to work. It is a shame that you had to go through so much trouble. Actually, I did believe that the chances of Option A and B were very slim, because they do not really address the issue with not-working dragons. But since they are fairly easy to try, I suggested them anyhow before going on to suggest a possibly more drastic option (Option C).

    • Sorry I was still sick when you posted this. You didn’t give me many details about what is happening, but I can recommend NRaas NoCD mod. It will stop the prompt to insert the cd.
